Cyclists frequent my home town often: singles, in small groups or en-masse for a tour or a race. Today was the Little Mountain Road Race event, a 16 mile circuit where riders complete several laps on a course which includes a tortuous ascent up the north end of Little Mountain and two other “decent” climbs. I say that not as a cyclist, but as someone who would not enjoy biking any of these climbs once, let alone each of them several times the same day.
The race began at the base of Little Mountain west of Trenton. These shots are of the riders climbing and summiting as a few of the classifications began the race:
After reaching the top of the first hill the course continues west to Clarkston then south towards Newton where the riders encounter the second hill, followed by a long descent before the road curves to the east and enters Newton. After riding through Newton the third climb awaits as the riders head back towards Trenton and the next lap. These photos were taken at various locations along the descent towards Newton after the second climb:
The first class of racers started just after 8:00 AM this morning and the last of the cyclists reached the finish line around 12:00 PM. Congratulations to the classification champions, as well as to all who raced.
