Our visit to the hills west of town tonight interrupted the relaxation of a mule deer doe, and after posing for a few photos she began to leave the area for a more private supper.

Congregation
April 21, 2011, 8:32 AM
On the way to Logan this morning I passed by a corn field in Benson that has been a meeting place for several Sandhill Crane’s over the last few weeks.

While I was stopped to take some photos, the congregation of long-legs proved how territorial they are when geese and ducks were promptly kicked out of the vicinity of the field after trying to land in the crane’s feeding area.

Shaggy

I took a quick drive on the loop west of town tonight and I saw something I was not expecting. I drove right past it, and when I was able to stop and look closer I realized it wasn’t an escaped calf, but a fawn. A very shaggy fawn.

It was mostly hidden behind the bank of a ditch that runs along the edge of the fields at this location. After a stare down long enough to take a quick photo, enough was enough and it beat a path across a hay field.
